SINGAPORE

There are no shortage of new electric vehicles on show at this year’s Singapore Motorshow, which is taking place at the Suntec City Convention Centre from 12 to 15 January. Here, we pick out five of the coolest EVs at the show that you should check out, and read our overview of all you need to know about the show.

BYD Seal

The Seal is one of two new models that BYD unveiled at the show, and it takes the form of a sleek electric sedan. The car is being previewed at the show, with the car set to go on sale here around July, but there is not much info on local specs and pricing as yet. Overseas though, the car has a choice of single motor short and long range options, as well as a dual motor version, though there’s no word yet on which variant will be offered for sale here.

MG 4

The MG 4 is MG’s latest electric hatchback, and it features a unique rear-wheel-drive setup with 50:50 weight distribution, promising entertaining drivability. The car delivers 201hp and 250Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds, while the MG4 also has a claimed range of 450km on a full charge. Pricing for the MG 4 stands at S$82,888, excluding COE.

Lexus RZ

Lexus previewed the RZ 450e, which is the brand’s first-ever fully-electric model line, at the Singapore Motorshow. Built on a dedicated all-electric platform, the RZ 450e gets a dual-motor setup that develops 308hp and 435Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds, with a quoted range of 362km. There’s no official pricing details or launch date locally as yet, but the car is expected to go on sale later this year. Check out full details in our news coverage here.

Volkswagen ID.Buzz

Another cool EV that is being previewed at the show is the ID.Buzz, which is an electrified modern interpretation of the classic Combi van. Available as a five or seven-seater passenger MPV, or as the ID.Buzz Cargo commercial van, the ID.Buzz features a 77kWh battery, developing 204hp and over 400km of range. There’s no word yet on the car’s on sale date or pricing details locally however.

Mini Recharged

Finally, Mini showcased the Recharged, which is a classic Mini that’s been modernised and given a new electric drivetrain. The car itself is a collaboration with designer Paul Smith, and the car itself is based in a fully road-legal 1998 Mini Cooper. The bold exterior colour is inspired by one of Smith’s favourite tee-shirts, while the minimalist interior features quirks such as a removable steering wheel.
