Third-generation Nissan Qashqai priced at S$167,800 with COE; comes with mild hybrid power for the first time

SINGAPORE

The all-new third-generation Nissan Qashqai has been priced in Singapore, with prices starting at S$167,800 inclusive of COE. That gets you into the 1.3T Premium model, with the higher spec Prestige version costing 10 grand more at S$177,800 with COE.

As we detailed in our news story last year, the new Qashqai is bigger all round than its predecessor, which for a time was one of Singapore’s best selling cars thanks to its practical crossover body style that was matched with an affordable price tag and cost-effective 1.2-litre turbo engine. The new car has been completely redesigned inside and out, and features mild hybrid tech under the bonnet for the first time.

The new Qashqai is powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged engine that produces 156hp and 270Nm of torque, and is paired with a mild hybrid system that uses a 12V lithium-ion battery that stores energy recovered from braking, and uses it to provide torque assistance. It can also power the car at extended idle periods or when coasting to a stop, and help it quickly restart from standstill, thereby improving fuel efficiency. An e-Power variant, using a similar system to the Kicks and Note e-Power cars, is supposedly in the works but there’s no word yet of its introduction in Singapore.

The interior of the Qashqai has also been upgraded, with more interior room and boot space than before. Standard features on the Premium model include an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and 360-degree all-round camera.

The Prestige model meanwhile adds a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, adaptive LED headlights, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel display, a head-up display, and a larger 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay. It also gains additional driver assistance features such as lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring systems.

The new Qashqai comes hot on the heels of the launch of another one of its big rivals, the Honda HR-V, and while the Qashqai now lacks a Cat A-eligible model (thus resulting in its higher asking price), the hope is that the move to hybrid tech (and eventually electric, with the upcoming e-Power variant) will translate into greater long term savings for drivers here.
