Kia has revealed the all-new K3, which boasts Kia’s new Opposites United design philosophy; not bound for Singapore

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA

Kia has revealed the all-new version of its K3, otherwise known as the Cerato, and the new car boasts a complete redesign inside and out, featuring Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy. There are no details yet about the car’s arrival in Singapore, but it would be reasonable to expect that the new K3 should debut here some time next year.

UPDATE: A Cycle & Carriage Kia representative reached out to CarBuyer to clarify that this particular car is not headed for Singapore as it is a left hand drive model based on the Kia Rio and engineered for North America. Singapore will get a different Cerato which has not been revealed yet.

Locally, the new K3 is expected to be powered by a 1.6-litre engine that produces 123hp, to fit in with its COE Category A status. Overseas markets though will also get a new GT-Line model with a 2.0-litre powerplant developing 152hp, although it is unknown whether that will be offered here. Kia also stated that some markets will have a 1.4-litre model, but did not reveal further details.

The design of the new K3 boasts a slightly sportier and more aggressive look, with the most distinctive feature being the evolution of the ‘Tiger Nose’ grille that now melds into the headlights. The car also boasts a sleeker, fastback-style silhouette, tapering towards a sharper-looking red end. Kia did not release official pictures of the rear of the car, but its design sketches suggest a large tail light bar that stretches across the width of the boot.

Inside, the new K3’s interior follows on from its siblings the EV6 and new Niro, with the digital instrument display combined with the 10.25-inch infotainment display to make it look like one large screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto will be standard, along with USB Type C chargers for front and rear passengers, while there will also be ambient lighting with 64 selectable colours.

The new K3 will also come with advanced driver assistance systems such as Front Collision Avoidance, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Driving Attention Warning, among others, although which of these will make it to Singapore-bound cars have not been finalised as local specs have not been confirmed. More details are expected to be revealed in the months ahead before the car’s launch.
