Mid-cycle refresh of Mercedes-Benz’s CLA four-door coupe now available in Singapore, with minor updates and new mild hybrid tech

Mercedes-Benz’s CLA four-door coupe has been given a mid-cycle refresh, and the updated model is now available for sale in Singapore. The main changes are slight exterior revisions, interior updates, as well as new mild hybrid tech. The updates apply to all the models in the CLA lineup locally, including the CLA 180 Progressive, CLA 200 AMG Line, CLA 35 AMG and CLA 45 S AMG.

Externally, the updated CLA gets a revised front grille with a new star pattern design, and is complemented by a reshaped front apron on the lower bumper. The LED headlights also get new modernised graphics, while there is also a new rear diffuser at the back. The design highlights are completed with two new body colour options, namely hyper blue and spectral blue, as well as three new alloy rim designs, of sizes up to 19-inches.

Inside, the CLA gets a new leather steering wheel, and an upgraded Driver Assistance Package, which includes a more refined Lane Keeping Assist system, as well as a parking assistance package that supports longitudinal parking and a 360-degree camera that uses cameras to generate a 3D image of the car. The MBUX operating system has also been updated, with new styles for the displays, and a more intuitive voice recognition command system.

The AMG cars get slightly more substantial updates, including an AMG-specific grille, a new performance steering wheel, new alloy wheel designs, and new upholstery seat options. The same upgraded Driver Assistance Package on the regular CLA models are also available on the AMG cars as well.

Under the bonnet, the cars now get new mild hybrid drivetrains with a 48-volt electrical system with a belt-driven starter generator that can provide up to 10kW (14hp) of power, and assists with more refined start-ups, engine-off coasting, as well as energy recuperation under braking and acceleration. Power outputs remain unchanged, with the CLA 180 and 200 models still powered by a 1.3-litre turbo four that produces 130hp and 163hp respectively, while the CLA 35 and 45 S AMG cars get 2.0-litre turbo fours that develops 306hp and 421hp respectively.

To mark the arrival of the facelift, there is also a special CLA 45 S AMG Street Style Edition, which comes with a grey magno paintwork, and unique AMG graphics. They are complimented by special 19-inch matte black AMG forged wheels, along with red brake callipers. The interior gets orange highlights throughout, with contrast stitching on the seats and interior trims, as well as AMG-specific interior ambient lighting.

Prices for the updated CLA start from S$255,888 inclusive of COE for the CLA 180 Progressive, and S$332,888 with COE for the CLA 200 AMG Line. Pricing details for the facelifted CLA 35 AMG and CLA 45 AMG will be announced later.
