The ID. 2all concept marks a new Volkswagen design language and direction for the brand’s future

WOLFSBURG, GERMANY

Volkswagen has premiered its ID. 2all concept electric vehicle, with a design inspired by the eight generation-old Golf. 

Building on the C-pillar design originally developed for the very first Volkswagen Golf, the ID. 2all concept features a new C-pillar signature that flows from the back into the side elements. Andreas Mindt, Head of Design at Volkswagen Passenger Cars shares that “The ID. 2all gives a preview of the new design language of Volkswagen, which is based on the three pillars of stability, like-ability, and enthusiasm.”

Development of the ID. 2all is based on the latest stage of the modular electric drive (MEB) platform, and will be the first MEB vehicle with front-wheel drive. It’s also mated to an electric motor with an output of 166kW, and an estimated WLTP range of up to 450km. For comparison, the crossover ID. 4 SUV has a maximum claimed range of more than 500km. 

The ID. 3 has received an update!

The interior of the ID. 2all features an infotainment with touch display measuring 12.9 inches diagonally. Below this sits a newly developed and separate air-conditioning control panel, with the main air-conditioning functions controlled with illuminated buttons. 

The ID. 2all also boasts 490L-1,330L of luggage space, a step up from the current generation Golf, which stores 381L of space. In comparison to the current-gen Golf, the ID. 2all is shorter and less wide, but taller at 4,050mm by 1,812mm by 1,530mm. The Golf currently measures 4,284mm by 1,789mm by 1,491mm.

The ID. 2all concept EV is one of ten new electric models that will be launched by Volkswagen by 2026. With the brand’s aims to achieving 80-percent of the electric car share in Europe, the brand aims to introduce the ID. 7 and the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase. What this signifies for the brand is an all-in offensive on electric vehicles, with hopes that they will account for half of its sales by 2030. This includes six factories in Europe, and expansion in the American and Chinese markets.

Most importantly, Volkswagen aims to present the production version of the ID. 2all in 2025, for the European market, with a starting price of less than 25,000 euros. The brand is also working on an EV with a price of less than 20,000 euros.
