A pre-series Porsche Taycan has clocked an official lap time of 7:07.55 minutes around the infamous green hell.

In 2022, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S completed a full lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a record-setting 7:33.35 minutes with Porsche development driver Lars Kern at the helm.

A record that stood for over a year before it was bested by a Tesla Model S Plaid (with a track package) and inevitably by the Rimac Nevera late last year.

However, a new variant of the Taycan (again, with Lars Kern behind the wheel) has bested its old record by a 26-second margin, completing the green hell in just 7:07.55 minutes and reclaiming the throne for an all-electric super saloon around the Nürburgring.

The lap was completed in a pre-series (and as of yet unnamed) Taycan, equipped with a roll cage and racing bucket seats. Reportedly, the new pre-series Taycan was so much faster that it carved out a 1.3-kilometer gap between the Taycan Turbo S’ previous record lap and this latest run.

Short of the Porsche 911 GT3 and the 991-generation GT2 RS (with a Manthey Performance kit), the new Taycan’s 7:07.55 minute lap makes it the quickest production Porsche to lap the infamous 20.8km circuit. At present, that also makes it the fastest four-door vehicle around the Nürburgring.

No word yet on the exact specifications of this unnamed Taycan variant but odds are, it’ll be quicker and even more powerful than the current Taycan Turbo S – which already has a whopping 761 horsepower. Your move Tesla.
