The Oracle Red Bull Racing F1 team has been crowned the constructor’s champion for the 2023 Formula 1 season.

With world driver’s championship (WDC) contender Max Verstappen bringing home the dominant RB19 car ahead of the pack in P1 at Suzuka, the Dutchman added 26 points (25 plus an extra point for the fastest lap) to his tally – which currently stands at a staggering 400 points.

Crucially, the 26 points were enough to propel Red Bull Racing further into the lead and enabled them to clinch the constructor’s title with six races left in the 2023 season.

Prior to the race, Red Bull was already the hot favourite to win the championship in Suzuka. Mathematically, all they needed was to outscore Mercedes and avoid being outscored by Ferrari by 24 points.

With Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz (who won the Singapore GP two weekends ago) coming in 4th and 6th respectively, they managed 20 points between both drivers. Meanwhile, Mercedes’ drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell came in 5th and 7th, giving them a combined 15 points.

Despite Sergio Perez being eliminated 15 laps into the race after a collision – and coming out of the pits to serve his five-second penalty before retiring to the pits again, Verstappen’s 26-point victory outscores that of Mercedes’ and Ferrari’s.

Currently, Red Bull leads (and wins) the constructor’s title with 623 points, while Mercedes brings up 2nd place with 305 points and Ferrari in 3rd with 285 points. As the season begins drawing to a close, the Ferrari drivers and the Mercedes duo would have their work cut out to try and fight for second place in the constructors championship.

On the WDC front, Max Verstappen leads with 400 points under his belt – more than the other constructors in the running. Come 8th October 2023 (Singapore time, GMT +8), Max Verstappen only needs to finish 6th or higher (3 points or more) during the F1 sprint race, regardless of where his teammate Sergio Perez finishes in the sprint.

At this point, Verstappen’s 3rd world championship title is basically a given. But still, it’ll be interesting to see who comes 2nd in the WDC.
