The world’s most popular car celebrates five decades with an anniversary edition in Singapore

SINGAPORE

2016 marks the 50^th anniversary of the world’s most popular car – the Toyota Corolla. First launched in 1966, in the ensuing 11 generations of Corolla, more than 40 million cars bearing the nameplate have been sold around the world.

We’re still not sure what an ‘altis’ is but the newest Corolla model, the Corolla Altis, has been continuing the legacy of its ancestors in sales terms. With the 50^th anniversary of the model though, local distributor Borneo Motors has rolled out a tasty-looking special edition to celebrate five decades at the top.

The 50^th Anniversary Edition of the Corolla Altis comes with a different ‘exclusive’ body kit (front and rear bumper, side skirts and bootlid spoiler), a different muffler, 17-inch OZ Superturismo GT alloy wheels. Owners will also receive a ‘personalised delivery kit’ which includes a 1:63 scale model of the car in gold plating, two keys with a 50^th anniversary pouch and a production plate with the owner’s name engraved on it.

All this comes at $8,000 over the higher Elegance trim of the Corolla. The regular ‘Standard’ model still retails at $107,888 with COE, the Elegance at $113,888 with COE and the 50^th Anniversary Edition at $121,888 with COE.
