Five-seat small electric hatchback expands BlueSG subscriber options

Three months after the initial news, Singapore car-sharing service BlueSG has officially confirmed that a fleet of new Opel Corsa-e hatchbacks has  joined its fleet here.

The Opel Corsa-e, which like BlueSG’s original fleet of four-seat, two-door Bolloré Bluecars, is fully electric. They are already available to  BlueSG users, and a basic membership costs S$8 per month with additional time-based charges for vehicle usage. Premium membership rates start from S$18 monthly, and subscribers get a bonus of 40 minutes of free vehicle usage every month. 

From what we know, more than 200 BlueSG-branded Opel Corsa-e EVs are already on the road and the plan is to expand this to a total of 500 cars in 2023. Together with the current Bluecar fleet of 800 cars, this would give BlueSG a projected total fleet strength of 1,300 cars in 2023. 

“Car sharing is clearly evolving into one of the mainstream mobility modes in Singapore. Not only has demand increased, but there is also a greater need for greater flexibility in selecting different vehicle sizes to fit their lifestyle needs.” Kelvin Tay, CEO of BlueSG, was quoted as saying.

“We are relentlessly focused on providing new driving experiences for our users, and integrating Corsa-e into the fleet through our partnership with Stellantis demonstrates our ongoing commitment to strengthen BlueSG’s value proposition.”

The Spanish-made Opel Corsa-e is a small hatchback that is slightly longer than a Volkswagen Polo, with room for five occupants and will definitely do better with families than the compact  Bolloré Bluecar. The Corsa-e has a 50kWh lithium-ion battery pack, also found in the Opel Mokka-e.

The Corsa-e has a claimed range of 337km, and fast charging capability that allows it to be recharged from 10 to 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes, at compatible fast charging stations.

It’s worth noting that, based on current COE prices, each Opel Corsa-e has a retail price of around $160,000.

BlueSG is the pioneering company in Singapore’s electric car-sharing service, having been  launched December 2017 as part of the second phase of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) national-level electric vehicle (EV) Car Sharing programme.

The brand was acquired in October 2021 by Goldbell Group, and is now stated as being set up as Goldbell’s global headquarters for car sharing to test and develop technology solutions that will support Singapore’s car-lite future.
