As the 2023 F1 season draws to a close, here’s what to expect from the final five races and when to tune in to catch the action

SINGAPORE

We’re coming to the end of the 2023 Formula 1 season. With just five races left in this year’s race calendar, both the constructor and world driver’s champions (WDC) have already been minted.

The Red Bull Racing team won the constructor’s championship at the Japanese Grand Prix in late September. This is their second consecutive constructor’s title (and sixth overall) but the team has shown no signs of slowing down or relenting.

Max Verstappen, who has been a dominant force in F1 all year round has claimed his third WDC title at the Qatar Grand Prix Sprint two weekends ago. Prior to the sprint race, Max only needed to score 3 points to seal the deal for the 2023 season.

Rookie Oscar Piastri of the McLaren racing team won the Sprint race (and his first “win” of his short F1 career), bagging himself 8 points in the championship. Max Verstappen came in seconds and added 7 points to his tally and thus winning himself the 2023 WDC title. The flying Dutchman also went on to win the race on Sunday and accumulate 433 points in the world driver’s championship.

As the United States Grand Prix arrives this weekend, the other teams on the grid are still vying for the second step on the podium. Sergio Perez, Max’s fellow Red Bull teammate, is still hanging on to second place in the WDC, but Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes fame is catching up just 30 points behind.

Fernando Alonso of the Aston Martin team is also closing in on the leaders with 183 points while Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, the man who won the Singapore GP, lines up fifth in the WDC with 153 points.
